The Adorable Waterfaring Cat Game, Catfish, is on Kickstarter and Steam Greenlight

Catfish, an open-world adventure game in which you’re a cat with a boat on the high seas, is looking for your support. To that end, it’s on Kickstarter and Greenlight. You can watch the trailer for the game above; its music and sense of humor are quite charming.

Players will explore the open waters, find collectibles, dress their pussy cat, and go fishing, all while climbing the ranks “from lowly fisherman to master of the seas”, unlocking new outfits and boats along the way.

Fishing promises to be interesting. There are various fish to encounter, which differ in appearance, behavior and rarity, and which of them you’ll find depends on such factors as the area, the time of day, and the weather. Your kitty will use unusual fishing equipment like Canned Tornadoes (!) to capture its prey, and jellyfish will somehow factor into the fishing gameplay.

Catfish has several biomes available, for example the Pirate Bays and Fantaseas, and islands that players will come across, and the waters themselves can be calm, raging, or deep. Biomes and islands even change location with each new game. The developers believe these factors will make for a dynamic gameplay experience.

A game about a sailing kitty just wouldn’t be complete without customization options, so the developers promise that players will be able to select from different fur patterns, costumes, and paints, for making their cat and ship as they would like them. As players progress through the game, they’ll unlock even more options.

The game’s currently in pre-alpha (that includes its art assets) and hopes to be ready to release some time in 2016.

If you’re interested in supporting the project, you can give Catfish money on Kickstarter and/or vote for it on Steam Greenlight.
