Pokken Tournament Ditches Traditional Arcade Controls for a Console-like Controller

We’ve learned something interesting for the upcoming Pokemon brawler, Pokken Tournament, via a special livestream hosted for the game today.

The game, although coming to Japanese arcades, completely ditches the traditional arcade joystick and button interfaces for what looks like a simple controller, one that you’d see on a home console. You can view it above (click to enlarge), courtesy of Hachima Kikou.

Tekken series producer Katsuhiro Harada also confirmed that Pokken Tournament is going to be challenging and very in depth, in comparison to other fighting games. However, he also pointed out that both newcomers and veterans are going to enjoy the game.

The controller has a red light that can light up, trigger buttons, a D-pad, and four face buttons. It was described on the livestream as resembling a Famicom controller—you know, the one that came with the original Nintendo Entertainment System.
