NicheCast – Episode 09

double fine tim shafer kickstarter 07-20-14-1

So you’re a regular visitor at Niche Gamer? The obscure games, the niche games, the weird games, whatever you want to call them, we love them and we know that you love them as well. We only cover these games on our regular feed, and we only cover them on our podcast as well.

The topic of the week for this podcast is whether or not Kickstarter funded developers are legally bound to come out with a finished product after taking everyones’ money. This is in response to the recent Yogventures debacle over on Kickstarter, in comparison to other developers (like Tim Shafer and Double Fine, pictured above) who repeatedly get funded on the platform and repeatedly deliver solid games.

I wanted to apologize for the file size of this week’s podcast, it’s kind of large at roughly 90MB. We’re in the process of getting the final issues with our post-production ironed out. However, we’re still trying to iron out issues with recording and latency (as we do it over the ‘net). We do have plans to meet up physically to do podcasts then, but it’s usually down to whether I can do it or not.

You can enjoy our podcast below, or you can download it here (right click and save as).

The songs featured in today’s podcast are quite eclectic, the intro song being the Prelude Overture (Prelude 序曲) featured in many classic movies of Chinese origin (performed by the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra), and the closing track being Starline by Genki Rockets, only this time it’s the Child of Eden mix (as featured in the game itself).

I have some left over Playstation Now beta keys for the Playstation 4. There are four in total, and details on how to win them are talked about somewhere in the podcast :) It’s quite simple really, and it will be a first come, first serve basis – and for North American PSN owners only.
