The Latest Update for The Last Guardian is Essentially Nothing

So we reported on a curious tip that IGN got last week just before E3 2014 that Sony had quietly killed off The Last Guardian. This was proven to not be true by Sony’s own Scott Rhode, and we updated the piece and moved on.

But what is really going on with The Last Guardian? Now that E3 2014 has come and went, we saw literally nothing for the game, and not one single mention of it either – at least not in Sony’s E3 presser.

Sony’s boss of Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, talked about the game a bit with Eurogamer:

“It’s the same message!” Yoshida said with a smile.

“Lots of people tweeted me they were heartbroken by that [false cancellation] news [prior to the show],” he continued. “People are going through this roller coaster of emotions, and it’s our fault for not releasing the game, yet. We owe a lot to those people, but we really don’t want to release piecemeal information until we can say this is The Last Guardian – so we ask you to wait.”

So … we didn’t learn anything about the game’s current status. However, Yoshida did make a slight jab at IGN in a talk with Polygon, where he said that if the game was ever cancelled, they would let the fans and press know about it publicly:

“When we cancel a title and it is something we have announced already, we’ll say so.”

While I still hold out a little kindle of hope in my heart, I can’t help but feel like the game is just dead to me. How do you guys feel about The Last Guardian? Will it ever be finished?
