Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Studio producer Masaaki Yamagiwa talked over on the PlayStation Blog about the newly revealed PS4 exclusive by Demon’s and Dark Souls creator, Hidetaka Miyazaki – Bloodborne.

The game is currently in development by From Software and produced by SCE Japan Studio, and it whisks players off to a world fill with darkness, terror, and a gothic look that is filled with demented and terrifying creatures.

Bloodborne takes place in an ancient, long-forgotten city called Yharnam, which has been notable for an old medical remedy. Many travelers and pilgrims visit the city each year in search of help. The protagonist goes to Yharnam in search of a cure for the affliction he’s contracted, but comes to find the city is struck with a horrible endemic illness. You have to navigate and survive the city streets, fight off monsters, creatures, and mobs that have fallen prey to the illness.

The combat within the game is again described as “intense, life-threatening battles.” Bloodborne retains the strategic elements of Demon’s Souls, but it also adapts the flow from the passive block and attack patterns to a faster, more offensive and aggressive style of combat.

The creators attest the game’s nightmarish visuals to the power of the Playstation 4, claiming that they can now have expanded draw distances, improved lighting effects, and “horrifyingly detailed” monsters and gigantic bosses.

As we pointed out in our earlier report, the game will have online multiplayer, but Sony is mum on this topic.

“I can say that we are developing new kinds of online experiences that allow users to share their adventures,” Yamagiwa said.

Lastly, Bloodborne director Hidetaka Miyazaki posted a message to his fans:

“Creating Bloodborne as a completely new game on the new PlayStation 4 hardware has allowed us to really push the envelope in myriad ways. That being said, in more ways than one, it also very much retains our distinct, signature style. As has been at the core of our development philosophy since Demon’s Souls, we make true games for people who love games. Please watch for more to come on Bloodborne, and thank you very much for your support.”

So are you guys excited? If you don’t own a PS4, would you buy one just for Bloodborne?
