In case you’re unfortunately too young to remember the original Game Boy in its monochromatic 160×144 pixel screen, you too can celebrate its 25th birthday like the retro hipster you are by pre-ordering a new game that is being developed for it. Now we’ve covered stuff like this before (people developing new games for old, non-current hardware), but this game is quite interesting.

For one, Airaki is developed by one man, a retro-hacker that goes by the alias of Furrtek, and he took it upon himself to develop a new puzzle RPG for the original Game Boy’s 26th birthday, which is coming next month. He didn’t stop there either, as he is going fully into production and making around 200 actual cartridges of the game, so you can actually play it on a good ol’ Game Boy.

While Airaki looks like a pretty solid puzzle RPG with some medieval themes, Furrtek’s previous outing, Super Connard (translated loosely by one reviewer as Super Asshole), was a parody of sorts of the “child-friendly” content that hit the system back in its heyday. Airaki is also in development for the Game Boy Color, if that tickles your fancy.
